Be sure to visit Jeff Majors’ Website and also enjoy captured performances of some of his beautiful expressions. His fingertips are like angels, sharing the voices of heaven.

As a native of Washington, D.C., music flowed throughout the household of JeffMajors courtesy of his mother Annie P. Fitzgerald — a talented jazz trumpeter in her own right with a circle of friends which included legendary actress and singer Pearl Bailey.
At age 15, JeffMajors had a dream in which he saw himself strumming the harp; an instrument he had never played before. Inspired, he used the dream to fuel his passion for music and literally change the course of his life. With the harp hand-made for him by a local music store owner, he began to pursue mastery of the instrument.

“Music is the fabric of my soul.”

Not since Minnie Ripperton has there been a more enchanting songstress with a glass-shattering high octave vocal-range. This show-stopping beauty Gloria Ry’ann is riding on the success of her current single releases “O.M.G.” and “Back With You”. Gloria is the treasured find for today’s music lovers. Entertaining crowds large and small across the country, Gloria has performed with the likes of pop princess Rihanna, Oscar-winner, Jennifer Hudson, legends Ashford & Simpson, Patti Labelle and the late Teddy Pendergrass.

Gloria has appeared on “The Today Show,” “106th & Park,” “The Mo’Nique Show,” The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and MTV European Music Awards as a supporting vocalist and as a soloist. “Music is the fabric of my soul,” Gloria says. A Chicago-south-side-native, Gloria grew up with a love of music that was fostered by her mother who encouraged her to sing and perform for family and friends.

Gloria Ry’ann ~Inside My Love (Minnie Riperton)

Back then, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Teena Marie were among the vocal heroes of young Gloria who soon began lessons with the world-renowned composer Dr. Lena Mc Lin. Over time, Dr. Mc Lin helped Gloria nurture her skills as a artist that gave her the confidence to relocated to New York City and focus on her music career. “I knew moving to New York would be my push to pursue my dreams to make them my reality.”

Her determination is paying off. Emerging as a dynamic vocalist, with a four- octave range, Gloria Ry’ann has been featured throughout the country as a headlining music act. Her music has found a home on radio stations around the world. Listeners are flocking to her sound on Facebook, MySpace and YouTube as well as live performances that convey a style, which Gloria describes as “positive, vibrant, classy, sensual, and sometimes naughty.” “From middle voice to the whistle register, Gloria is in possession of a vocal tone that is simply beautiful,” says Carl Smith of GrownFolksMusic.com. “I, for one, have reserved a space in my musical radar screen for [her] and I think you should, too.”

Got a Letter Today… Very Disturbing Confirmation

It’s a “fact” that Black women are ugly?

My brother sent me a link a few weeks ago
posted in Psychology Today.  It was a bunch of mambo-ja-hambo about black women
not being as attractive as other races, mainly white women.  It was a bunch of
junk, each word sounding like “Tomfoolery” if there is such a word.  It just
shows how ignorant and desperate people are to constantly demean a race that
they envy.  And we all know what results from envy.  We all know what breeds
envy, and we all know that there is still a lingering desire to
what…………BE LIKE US!  You decide.  Color of Change sent me an email
detailing this nonsence as well.  I thought it was a joke by just one IDIOT.
Apparently, it is not.

Dear Monique,

Nearly 20 years
after a black parent documented how hard it was to hear, “Mommy, I want to be
white,”1 Psychology Today reinforced the false and hurtful sentiment that Black
women aren’t attractive.

Last week they published an article claiming it
to be scientific fact that Black women are less beautiful than women of other
races,2 penned by Satoshi Kanazawa, who is notorious for hiding behind
pseudoscience to promote discredited racist and sexist ideas.3

By giving Kanazawa a platform and
validating his ideas, Psychology Today dehumanized Black women and girls
everywhere. After widespread public outcry, they removed the article from their
website.4 But that alone won’t erase the damage they’ve done by validating these
discredited ideas — the editors need to apologize, explain how this happened,
and let us know that it won’t happen again. Please join us in demanding they do
so immediately, and then ask your friends and family to do the same:

http://act.colorofchange.org/sign/psychtoday

Kanazawa’s article is flawed from top to
bottom.5 Using a dataset from an unrelated study of teenagers, he draws the
obviously false conclusion that Black women are “objectively” less attractive
than women from other racial groups.

Kanazawa has a long history of
hiding behind pseudo-science to express racist and sexist views. He once wrote
an article asking “Are All Women Essentially Prostitutes?” and another
suggesting that the US should have dropped nuclear bombs across the entire
Middle East after 9/11 because it would have wiped out Muslim
terrorists.6

So why does Psychology Today continue to give him a
platform?  Black women constantly face both subtle and explicit messages that
they are valued less than women of other races —  messages that are especially
damaging to Black girls. Now Psychology Today has served as launching point for
yet another attack, this time in the name of science.

Almost as if to cover up the racism
inherent in his piece, Kanazawa says that black men are, “if anything more
attractive” than their counterparts of other races because of “greater
testosterone.”7 But even here Kanazawa relies on the same pseudoscience to
describe black men in familiar terms — brutish, hypermasculine, oversexed,
exotic. And that’s dangerous, too.

He uses a modern-day version of the
faulty logic used to dehumanize blacks as inferior for hundreds of years, from
the social Darwinists and eugenicists of the 19th century to The Bell Curve just
15 years ago. Psychology Today has a responsibility not to give such false logic
a stage, nor validation.
To undo the damage it’s done, Psychology Today needs
to explicitly reject Kanazawa’s ideas. Please join us in demanding that their
editors apologize, explain how this article was published in the first place and
what they’ll do to ensure it won’t happen again in the future. It takes just a
moment:

CAN INDEPENDENT ARTIST GO MAINSTREAM WITHOUT A CHANGE OF LOCATION?

There are many discussions throughout social networks asking whether or not being an independent artist from Washington, DC or the DMV is an advantage or disadvantage when trying to make it in mainstream entertainment. The question that seems to be the hot topic in most forums is “Do you have to leave the DMV to be successful?” Being passionate myself about the grind that must be put forth by any artist, I immediately said “no”. Why would an artist have to leave the DMV to peruse their dreams? Why can’t this feat be accomplished without relocating? This question is not just for musicians, but for poets, painters, writers, actors, and producers. Maybe I find the idea of having to uproot yourself unwillingly to fulfill your dreams, especially when so many successful names in the entertainment industry today represent the DMV to the fullest. Did these artist leave before or after they were discovered?

Was it the high demand these artists generated as a rising star the reason to bounce to New York, Atlanta, or California, or was it because there is no love at home for lack of a better world? Let us not stop there. Let us talk about the resources available to independent artists to cross over to the mainstream. Is there any major record labels home to the DMV area? Aside from Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University, there are not many forums for instruction of the arts. . Musical artist complain that there is no outlet for their music to be heard because of lack of radio play and format. You have to grease the palm of a disk jockey to get one spin at 3:00am when no one is listening. Some may say it is a daily hustle. If you stay on your grind, you will be successful. Others may argue that there is too much “HATIN” going on in the DMV. Now there is a bigger picture ladies and gentlemen. While the question of whether independent artist in the DMV area can make it to stardom without leaving home is a double-edged sword, here is a list of artists that still reside in the area despite the odds.

Taby Bonney

Wale

Chucky Thompson

Raheem Devaughn

Keyonte’

Michael Epps

Dave Chapelle

Jada Pinkette

Donnie Simpson

Toni Braxton

Taraj P Henson

David Edwards

Maya

Royale Watkins

Although some of the artists listed above may not currently reside in the DMV area, they remained on their own geographical soil as they were discovered into the mainstream. It took Wale to go to Canada and then return to DC building up a large following. Now you can find him plastered over MTV and other networks with Pop Star Lady Gaga.

Taby Bonney has had success overseas as well and has brought it home to DC. I can tell you for a fact that they hate on Taby. No one can argue the fact that Taby Boney is one of the few if not only independent unsigned artist to appear on MTV’s $2 Dollar Bill Tour, as well as the “Rock the Vote” tour. Raheem Devaughn has had a Grammy nomination as well as Keyonte for songwriting. Chucky Thompson is a major producer who produced Biggie, Mary J Blidge, Amerie, and many more.

Discussion on this topic can go on until infinity with positive and negative feedback, but while these artists flourished in their hometown and continue on with their daily grind, other artist did in fact seek other horizons to manifest their dreams into reality. David Edwards, a native Washingtonian is now in California fulfilling his dream as a director. You may remember him in his famous role playing himself on the Real World, roles in Half Baked, and House Party 3.

Royale Watkins shinned on Def Comedy Jam and is currently hosting Comedy Mixtape Tour along -side the very talented Anthony Anderson. These two gentlemen alone had to pack their bags and head to the big city to pursue their careers. Was it hateration that caused these two artists to leave their hometown or was it due to a lack of resources?

The DMV is a small city which turns the target market of artists into one big melting pot of competition so I have come to say that it is a double edged sword when answering the question which lingers in so many people’s mind. One thing is for certain, and two things are for sure. Artist born and raised in the DMV area always come home some time or another, and when they do, DC is represented to the fullest. Whether artist stop on the heads of other artist in order to get noticed or signed is a question that many can answer, with many different answers.

My question to you is, are you going to let this stop you from your dreams and will you leave your hometown to escape the hate?
